The extraordinary landscapes of this island feature desert terrain with cacti growing to the height of a man, palm-tree fringed beaches with azure waters, cliffs, grottoes and giant green parakeets and picturesque towns with quaint Dutch colonial architecture. The capital city, Oranjestad, has been recently refurbished and its pastel shades are pristine perfection under the Caribbean sun. In this bustling shopping area, you can enjoy browsing in the Seaport Village stores or witness the fresh fish market along the wharf every morning. Aruba is one of the most popular holiday destinations of the Caribbean, with the highest repeat-visitor rate. The island’s multi-cultural history can be experienced in a tour around its various sights. In and around Oranjestad, visit the Fort Zoutman’s Museum and the William III Tower as well as the charming streets like Wilhelminastraat. In the countryside, see the ancient writings on the cave walls at Arikok National Park, as well as the emblematic ‘watapana’ trees with their characteristic sculpted outlines, shaped by the constant trade winds. The Bushiribana are abandoned gold mines which were at the centre of Aruba’s gold rush during the nineteenth century. Nearby, see the ruins of an old pirate castle which is said to hail from 1499, the year that Alonso de Ojeda landed here. The cliffs of the north east coast are rugged and wild, while the south and west coasts feature miles of beaches that stand out as some of the most beautiful in the world.

Among the more luxurious resorts is a hotel which offers its own nearby island complete with private beaches, restaurant and bar, as well as gym, spa and tennis court. Further along the coast are the glamorous High-Rise developments boasting wonderful amenities and full entertainment programmes.

The water sports available on Aruba offer the visitor a chance to take advantage of all that the warm Caribbean waters have to offer. Enjoy a half-day sail and snorkel experience on one of Aruba’s luxury catamarans, exploring one of the largest wrecks in the Caribbean before relaxing on the spacious sun deck to enjoy the complimentary snacks and refreshments from a well-stocked bar. Learn to dive in a day and discover the beauty of Aruba’s underwater world. A dip in the cool, tranquil waters of Baby Beach or the Natural Pool for swimming or snorkelling provides the perfect respite between sightseeing excursions.
